People in the small African island nation of Cape Verde speak a language called Cape Verdean Creole that is unique to these small but incredibly beautiful islands. A creole language forms when two different languages mix into a new language, like Haitian Creole which is a mixture of French and West African languages, and Jamaican Patois, a mix of English and West African languages. Because Cape Verde was colonized by Portugal for hundreds of years, Cape Verdean Creole is a fascinating blend of various African languages and Portuguese. This language is extremely rare outside of Cape Verde but I did manage to find a Cape Verdean diaspora in the US State of Massachusetts, where I was able to find a few people who actually speak the language.
