Priti Patel has implemented a policy whereby citizens of Switzerland or the EEA will no longer be able to enter Britain with their national identity cards. Patel insists that this is for security purposes, without explaining why an identity card is less secure than a passport when it's issued by the same governments. But the upshot is that it dissuades even more people from visiting Britain for the purposes of tourism and trade.
