Tens of thousands of British holidaymakers who are trying to return from Portugal were forced to queue for hours in the hope of getting home in time to avoid 10 days of quarantine.
On June 3 Grant Shapps, the Transport Secretary, announced that at 4am on Tuesday June 8, Portugal would move from the green list to the amber list, following the emergence of a Nepalese mutation of the Indian variant.
Those arriving back in Britain from Portugal after that time would have to quarantine for 10 days.
The Government have been criticised or failing to place Portugal on a “green watchlist” to give holidaymakers and travel companies a suitable warning that the country was to move from approved status to amber.
