Grow Your Own Guacamole Garden

Avocado

MATERIALS
Fresh avocado pit
4 toothpicks
Cup

INSTRUCTIONS
Clean your avocado pit.
Poke all four toothpicks into the sides of the pit. It works best if the toothpicks are angled slightly upward as this will help with the next step.
Fill a glass with water and place the pit inside, the toothpicks should hold it steady in the glass while still allowing it to be submerged about halfway in the water.
Keep in a sunny area, and change the water every few days.
When the stem grows to about 5-6 inches (12.7-15.74 cm), pinch the top leaves.
After 2-3 weeks the new leaves will grow, and the plant can be transplanted into a large flower pot.


Onion

MATERIALS
Onion
Knife
Potting mix
Garden pot

INSTRUCTIONS
Cut the onion in half and leave 1-2 inches (2.54-5.08 cm) of the base intact. Optional: Trim the sides of the onion.
Fill the pot with potting mix and create a little hole for your onion. Place the onion inside, root-side down.
Cover with a thin layer of the potting mix.
Keep the soil moist.
Transfer the plant to a larger pot or gardening area when the green tops begin to sprout.


Lemon

MATERIALS
Lemon
Potting mix
Garden pot (must have drainage holes at the bottom)
Clear plastic wrap

INSTRUCTIONS
Remove the seeds from the lemon and rinse thoroughly. Keep them moist until they are planted.
Moisten the potting mix, plant the seeds 0.5 inches (1.27 cm) deep.
Cover the pot with plastic wrap to keep the potting mix moist. When the soil starts to dry, add a little water, but do not let it get soggy.
Place the plant in a warm and sunny area.
Transfer the plant to a larger pot or gardening area when the seedlings begin to grow.

Jalapeño

MATERIALS
Jalapeño
Gloves
Potting mix
Garden pot

INSTRUCTIONS:
While wearing gloves, remove seeds from the pepper.
Clean the seeds and let them dry.
Plant the seeds ¼ inch (0.635 cm) deep in the potting mix.
Water as necessary.

Tomato

MATERIALS
Tomato
Potting mix
Garden pot

INSTRUCTIONS
Remove the seeds from the tomato and clean them.
Plant the seeds ¼ inch (0.635 cm) deep in the potting mix.
Keep in a warm and sunny area.
Water as necessary.
