In this video my friend Jim is sharing his favourite Pastel de Nata recipe (as he says the easy version). He had the fortune of living in Mozambique for many years and prior to that attended a language course in Lisbon where he got introduced to this beautiful Portuguese egg custard tart pastry.
Outside Portugal, they are particularly popular in other parts of Western Europe, Asia and former Portuguese colonies.
Ingredients you need for this recipe: to make 12
For the cream custard filling
3 egg yolks
1/2 cup sugar
2tbsp corn flour
180 ml thick cream
125 ml water
Rind from 1/2 lemon
2tsp vanilla essence
For the shell
1 ready to roll butter puff pastry sheet
Baking temperature is 220 degree normal or 200 degrees for fan forced.
